How I Used VOIP TO Slash My Phone Costs by 83%

You’ve probably heard about VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) recently.
This is a technology where you use your broadband Internet connection to make phone calls, instead of your normal phone system.

VOIP allows you to make long distance calls at a much cheaper rate than normally charged by your phone company. I can make a call to anywhere in Australa and talk as long as I like for 18 cents. (some VOIP providers charge even less - I’ll tell you why I don’t use them below)
Over the past 6 months I estimate that I’ve saved 83% on my phone charges, while enjoying the same call quality as a normal phone call.

Dealing with the Rats Nest of Power Cords in your Office

At last count, my office contained 26 things that need connection to the AC power supply.

And when something needs to be unplugged, it used to take me ages to find the right cord, and I often would unplug the wrong thing and the computer or some other item would die.

I tried labelling the cords with bits of tape, but that was too fiddly. Colour coding was also a pain to maintain. So I invented a simple, elegant solution that really works.

BEWARE Domains Australia free mp3 player offer

Yet another Domain Name registrations trick to be aware of.

auDA has issued a warning that Domains Australia Pty Ltd is sending letters and/or faxes to some domain name registrants offering to arrange registration of the net.au equivalent of the registrants com.au domain name for $225.

One letter I have received is headed .DOMAIN NAME AVAILABLE, and offers a free MP3 player with each registration.
You are urged to register domain names similar to your existing domain name, and get a free mp3 player.
