To WWW or not to WWW ???

One of the benefits of hosting with WebAngel is that your website will work with and without the www prefix.
“So what” I hear you say. Well, here’s why it is important.

Many people tend to leave off the www prefix when entering a website address into a browser.
If your webhost has not set up your account to allow for this, your prospective visitor won’t reach your website. They’ll get an error message instead, and assume that your site is unavailable.

Try it now - make sure that your website can be reached with and without the www prefix.
If it doesn’t work without the www, contact your Web Hosting company and ask them to set up your account so that it does. There should be no charge for doing this.

And if your webhost tells you that it can’t be done , then they have just confessed their lack of ability to perform a fairly simple system configuration task.

Another reason that it is useful to be able to drop the www prefix is for radio, TV, and print advertising.
The WWW takes up 2 seconds of expensive airtime, which could be better used.
And leaving it off will allow you to have larger text in a fixed width print column to highlight your domain name.

Quick Website Tip: Put contact Details on EVERY page.

Many websites only show their contact details on a special contact page.
This is a mistake that could be costing you business.

Many people use the internet for research, and print out WEB pages for later reference.
If your contact details are not on this page, then it becomes impossible for your prospective customer to get in touch with you UNLESS THEY ARE SITTING AT THEIR COMPUTER.

You’ve probably printed out pages from competing companies yourself, to think about later andmake a decision. Did you feel annoyed when some of them didn’t have a phone number shown, and you couldn’t contact them for that vital bit of information you needed to make a decision?

Help your web pages the best chance of gaining you more business. Insist that your contact details are in the footer of every page.
Regardless of the howl of protests that you may get from “Artiste” web designers. (You know the ones - they also think it’s a great idea to make your links look exactly the same as the surrounding text so that no bugger can find them)

don’t give away business secrets with your old computer

Many businesses sell or give away their old computers without realising that the hard drives probably contain confidentail information about their business.

Be aware that formatting a hard disk, or deleting the data does NOT remove this data from the disk. It is easy to recover.

We suggest that you either sell the computer without the hard disk, or use a special program to totally “shred” the files contained on the hard disk so that the contents cannot be restored. Pay a visit to www.download.com or your favorite software source, and search for programs using the search term “file deletion”

Choose a program that will overwrite the files several times, and make them unrecoverable. After all, you wouldn’t want to breach the privacy act by allowing private information to get out of your business.
Would you!
